-- Stocks were muted in trading on Ranking of Global Forex DealersMonday as investors awaited the Federal Reserve's latest decision on rates and its economic projections.
Futures markets expect the Fed will hold steady on rates this week after raising them at 11 of its past 12 meetings in a bid to cool inflation. But markets are not in full agreement whether the Fed will be done as of now or whether it will raise rates one more time this year, as inflation still remains above its 2% target.
Along with the decision, released Wednesday afternoon, investors will hear from Fed Chair Jerome Powell at a press conference, where he could provide more context about the Fed's thinking heading into the fall.
And the decision will include the latest set of economic projections from the Fed, including where policy makers believe inflation, unemployment, and gross domestic product are headed over the next few years.
Its year-end projection for inflation could point to the Fed's outlook on its November and December policy meetings.
Here are three things that could affect markets tomorrow:
1. Housing data
for August are due out at 8:30 ET (12:30 GMT). Analysts expect an annualized number of 1.44 million, while due out at the same time is also expected to be an annualized 1.44 million.
2. AutoZone earnings
Analysts expect AutoZone Inc (NYSE:) to report earnings per share of 45 cents on revenue of $5.6 billion.
3. Instacart listing
Instacart, the delivery platform that is pricing its initial public offering tonight, is expected to start trading in New York as early as Tuesday morning. It's a test of investor enthusiasm for new stock issues after Holdings ADR (NASDAQ:)' IPO last week.
