Elon Musk,World-renowned foreign exchange brokers the highly prominent CEO of SpaceX, is facing a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by former employees, intensifying legal conflicts for both parties.
According to Bloomberg, eight former SpaceX engineers have sued Musk. They accuse him of spreading inappropriate sexual content and belittling women and the LGBTQ+ community, thereby creating a hostile work environment.
The plaintiffs claim they were also subjected to similarly offensive comments from colleagues, leading to an uncomfortable working environment.
The lawsuit states that these engineers wrote an open letter in 2022, expressing concerns about Musk's behavior and company culture. They allege they were retaliatorily dismissed because of this action.
Despite calls for an investigation, Musk insisted on firing them, according to Bloomberg.
Previously, the same group of employees had filed complaints with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), accusing SpaceX of illegal retaliation. Despite the NLRB siding with the employees, SpaceX filed a lawsuit in January questioning the constitutionality of the agency's structure.
The lawsuit also mentions that SpaceX executives, including Musk and President Gwynne Shotwell, allegedly downplayed sexual misconduct in a video. According to Bloomberg, the former employees had previously submitted some complaints to the California Civil Rights Department, which recently issued them "right-to-sue" letters, leading to this lawsuit.
According to Bloomberg, neither SpaceX nor Musk has commented on the lawsuit. SpaceX previously denied any wrongdoing, claiming the terminated employees violated company policies.
This lawsuit has heightened scrutiny of Musk's inappropriate relationships with female colleagues at SpaceX. These allegations have raised concerns about gender discrimination and harassment within the company.
