Data released by the Bank of Korea on Tuesday showed that due to heightened domestic and international uncertainties, foreign investors net sold South Korean stocks for the eighth consecutive month in March. According to statistics from the Bank of Korea, following a net sale of $1.81 billion in February, overseas investors net sold South Korean stocks worth $1.16 billion last month.
Since August 2024, foreign investors have been net sellers of South Korean stocks, with this trend continuing through March this year, marking the longest period of net sales since 2008. From August 2024 to the present, foreign investors have cumulatively net sold South Korean stocks worth $20.6 billion, the highest level since 2020.
However, the data shows that despite the capital outflow from the stock market, foreign investors exhibited the opposite trend in the bond market. Last month, foreign investors net purchased South Korean bonds worth $4.83 billion, marking the second consecutive month of net buying. This move reflects investors' shift towards the bond market in search of more stable investment returns amid increasing uncertainties in the South Korean stock market.
