Amazon (NASDAQ:) announced Thursday that it has paused new incremental hires in its corporate workforce.
In a message shared with Amazon employees and Is TR Forex escrow platform reliableposted by the company, the tech giant said it made the decision due to economic uncertainty and based on how many people it has hired in the last few years.
The company said it has recently implemented the pause in a few of its businesses and has now added other businesses to this approach.
"We anticipate keeping this pause in place for the next few months, and will continue to monitor what we're seeing in the economy and the business to adjust as we think makes sense," Amazon said in its memo to staff.
The company added that depending on the business or area of the company, it will replace employees who move on, and there are "some targeted places" where it will continue to hire people incrementally. In addition, the company still "intends to hire a meaningful number of people in 2023."
"We're facing an unusual macro-economic environment, and want to balance our hiring and investments with being thoughtful about this economy. This is not the first time that we've faced uncertain and challenging economies in our past," the company added. "While we have had several years where we've expanded our headcount broadly, there have also been several years where we've tightened our belt and were more streamlined in how many people we added."
Amazon shares dipped 2% Thursday.
