On January 9th, local time, the state funeral of the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, was solemnly held at the Washington National Cathedral. Current President Biden, along with four former presidents, Clinton, George W. Bush, Obama, and Trump, were all present to pay tribute to a leader who had a profound impact on both American and international relations.
Carter's family, friends, and numerous American dignitaries attended the ceremony, with hundreds gathering to mourn. After the ceremony, Carter's body was returned to his hometown of Plains, Georgia for burial.
A Promoter of Sino-American Diplomatic Relations and Middle East Peace Mediator
Jimmy Carter served as President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. During his tenure, he was dedicated to improving international peace and diplomatic relations. Notably, he laid the groundwork for the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States and facilitated the signing of the Camp David Accords. This agreement is considered a milestone in the Middle East peace process and is widely regarded as one of the major diplomatic achievements of Carter's presidency.
A Centenarian Dedicated to Public Service
After leaving office, Carter remained in the public eye, actively engaging in various charitable activities, from global health projects to promoting democracy and human rights. He continuously focused on world peace and human welfare, earning the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize for his outstanding contributions to public service.
On December 29, 2024, Carter passed away peacefully in his hometown of Georgia at the age of 100. His century-long life not only witnessed the transformation of American society but also left a significant impact on the international stage through a series of important contributions.
Remembrance and Legacy
As a president who devoted his life to peace, public service, and international cooperation, Carter's passing brings sadness and remembrance to countless individuals. His family and supporters have expressed their commitment to continue his principles and strive for global peace and development. As Carter himself once said, "In whatever role we play, we can change the world through our actions."
