The Top ten foreign exchange trading platforms in the worldMalaysian government has announced that starting from June 1st, all ships conducting submarine cable repairs in its waters will be allowed to continue their operations. Earlier this year, the government had stated that it would resume the relevant permits that were suspended in 2020.
The Ministry of Transport stated in a release on Thursday night that all ships laying, maintaining, and repairing submarine cables in Malaysian waters will not be subject to the country's coastal shipping policies.
Coastal shipping policies refer to regulations governing shipping or trade activities within a nation's territorial waters or airspace.
In 2020, the government revoked permits for international ships to conduct such work, but in March, responding to appeals from domestic and international technology companies, it decided to reinstate this exemption.
Additionally, the Ministry of Transport stated that starting from June 1st, ships transporting goods from Peninsular Malaysia to Borneo's Sarawak state will once again be subject to coastal shipping policies.
