The Agricultural futures trading platform appWhite House recently announced that the United States and Iran will hold direct talks on April 12th, aiming to discuss the Iranian nuclear issue. The White House press secretary stated that high-level talks will take place on this date to further advance the negotiation process.
However, the response from Iran was different. Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi posted early on the 8th that although the US claims these are direct talks, in reality, the meetings between Iran and the United States will be held in Oman and will be in an "indirect" format. This discrepancy has led to different interpretations of the nature of the talks.
The talks come in the context of President Trump's repeated statements that military action will be taken if a deal with Iran cannot be reached. During a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on the 7th, Trump publicly stated that negotiations with Iran have begun and will continue to progress. Trump has also frequently warned in the past that if the Iranian nuclear issue cannot be resolved, he will consider more aggressive measures, including military strikes.
Currently, the specific content of the talks and the details of the positions of both sides remain unclear, but this encounter is considered an important turning point in US-Iran relations, potentially having a profound impact on the Middle East situation. The international community will closely follow whether this meeting can bring a solution to the long-standing unresolved issue of the Iranian nuclear program.
