Memorial Day is one of the most important national holidays in the United States, intended to honor military personnel who have died in various wars. Initially set on May 30th each year, since 1971, it was adjusted to the last Monday in May in most states for federal employees to enjoy a unified holiday.
This holiday originated in the late American Civil War when Southern families began voluntarily paying respects by visiting and placing flowers on the graves of fallen soldiers, regardless of sides. The North was deeply moved by this gesture, deeming it a symbol of national unity. In 1868, the U.S. officially designated May 30th as a day to lay flowers in tribute to the valiant soldiers. Since then, on each holiday, both active and veteran military personnel march to military cemeteries to perform gun salutes and bugle calls as expressions of mourning.
Apart from its solemn commemorative significance, Memorial Day in the U.S. also symbolizes the unofficial start of summer. Many families choose to spend this day outdoors, host barbecues, or participate in local parades, blending mourning with celebration, making it one of the unique holiday cultures in American society.
The market holiday arrangements remind investors to pay attention to trading time changes during this period to adjust their trading strategies in time and avoid operational errors due to time differences.
